Cornell University / USDA-ARS, USA, 2012
Developed by Cornell University and the USDA-ARS in Geneva, New York, Geneva® 890 (G.890)—a cross between Malus robusta 'Robusta 5' and 'Malling 27'—is a semi-dwarf apple rootstock producing trees roughly 50–65% the size of a standard seedling. Engineered for rapid orchard establishment, high precocity, and cold hardiness, G.890 offers robust tolerance to apple replant disease. It boasts high resistance to fire blight, collar rot (Phytophthora), and woolly apple aphid. Featuring a deep, well-anchored root system, it supports freestanding trees while exhibiting minimal burr knot formation and very low suckering.
