M.7
Malling 7
Selected from French Paradise
East Malling Research Station, UK, 1917
Cataloged in 1912 by England’s East Malling Research Station from old French 'Doucin' selections, Malling 7 (M.7 / EMLA 7) is a widely used semi-dwarf rootstock. It limits mature tree size to roughly 55% to 65% of a standard seedling. Due to its moderate anchorage and a high tendency to lean under heavy fruit loads, growth practices often require temporary or permanent trunk support, alongside managing extensive root suckering. It is moderately precocious and highly adaptable to diverse soil conditions. Regarding resistance, M.7 shows good tolerance to fire blight and Phytophthora root rot, but it lacks resistance to woolly apple aphids and Apple Replant Disease.
