B.9
Budagovsky 9
M.8 × Red Standard
Budagovsky Research Station, Russia, 1960
Developed in Russia by crossing M.8 and 'Red Standard', Budagovsky 9 (Bud 9) is a leading choice for extreme winter-hardy, high-density orchards. It exhibits low vigor, producing a fully dwarfed tree about 30% the size of a standard seedling—slightly smaller than M9T337. Due to brittle roots, growth practices require permanent trellis or pole support. Bud 9 is highly precocious and highly productive. Regarding health challenges, it shows excellent resistance to Phytophthora crown rot and has better field resistance to fire blight than M.9 clones, but it has no notable resistance to Apple Replant Disease and is susceptible to woolly apple aphids.
