M.9 T337
Malling 9
Selected from French Paradise
East Malling Research Station, UK, 1917
Historically selected in Holland as a virus-indexed clone of the late-1800s English Malling 9, the M9T337 rootstock is the global standard for high-density orchards. It possesses low vigor, reducing tree size to roughly 30% to 35% of a standard seedling, typically maintaining a mature height of 10 to 12 feet. Because of its brittle, dwarfed root system, growth practices mandate permanent trellis or stake support and consistent irrigation. It is highly precocious, yielding large fruit within two to three years. Regarding health challenges, M9T337 has zero resistance to Apple Replant Disease (ARD), suffering severe stunting in old orchard sites, and is highly susceptible to fire blight and woolly apple aphids.
