The Fuji Zhen Aztec strain (botanically registered as Gran常规 Aztec) was discovered in New Zealand as a natural bud sport selection specifically bred to solve the coloring deficits of traditional Fujis. Developing a medium-to-strong, spreading tree structure that thrives alongside standard cross-pollinators, it produces medium-to-large, uniformly round fruit. It features a brilliant, intense, uniform solid red blush covering 80–90% of the skin surface with absolutely no stripe pattern, delivering flawless color quality and early color accumulation even on inner canopy branches. Requiring 700 to 900 winter chilling hours, Zhen Aztec achieves premium crispness and structural balance at elevations between 5,500 and 9000 feet. Harvested late October as ground color transitions and sugars cross 15% Brix, the clone exhibits an exceptionally low susceptibility to watercore. Its dense, sweet, creamy-white flesh provides outstanding storage longevity, easily maintaining juice and crunch for six months in standard refrigeration and twelve months in controlled atmospheres.
