Richared (commonly written as Richared Delicious) stands out as an early, classic "standard" mutation of the original Red Delicious, discovered in Washington in 1915. Unlike modern semi-spur Italian clones, it features a traditional, highly vigorous standard growth habit that develops a wide canopy and requires ample spacing. It is celebrated for its deep, solid full-blush color that spreads evenly without stripes, though it colors slightly later than Starking. The fruit is highly aromatic, sweet, and crisp, with a slightly thicker skin that grants excellent shelf life and bruising resistance, making it a highly reliable, time-tested choice for traditional high-altitude orchards.
