The King Grofn Fuji was discovered as a natural bud sport mutation in South Tyrol, Italy, celebrated for its superior coloring traits. Exhibiting medium-to-strong tree vigor with a spreading growth pattern that thrives alongside traditional cross-pollinators, it produces medium-to-large, uniformly round-conical fruit. It features a brilliant, exceptionally dark red full wash with subtle, underlying stripe patterns that color beautifully even on shadowed internal branches. Requiring 700 to 9000 winter chilling hours, King Groffan hits maximum fruit quality and firmness at elevations between 5500 and 9000 feet. Harvested in late October when seeds fully darken and sugars peak at 15% Brix, the strain shows low susceptibility to early watercore. Its dense, sweet, yellowish-white flesh boasts remarkable storage properties, remaining highly crisp and flavorful for six months in standard refrigeration and up to twelve months under controlled atmosphere conditions.
