The SAN-CIV® strain (botanically registered as FUCIV51) was developed in Italy by the Consortium of Italian Fruit Nurseries (CIV) as a breakthrough clone engineered to color without extreme weather assistance. Grown on medium-vigor, open-spreading trees requiring standard cross-pollinators like Gala, it produces medium-to-large, exceptionally symmetric, round-conical fruit. Its color quality is elite, showcasing a highly uniform, intense pinkish-red full blush covering up to 100% of the skin without any striping or muddy green background. Requiring 600 to 800 winter chilling hours, its genetic coloring advantage allows it to hit full color early, making it highly optimal for mid-elevation Himalayan belts between 5,000 and 9,000 feet without risking late-October frost damage. Ready for harvest mid-to-late October as sugars surge past 15% Brix, this stable clone resists watercore and skin russeting. Its dense, crisp, creamy-white flesh delivers outstanding storage performance, keeping perfectly for six months in standard refrigeration and twelve months in controlled atmospheres.
