Developed by Swiss breeder Markus Kobelt, the Redlove® series is a hybrid of disease-resistant, red-fleshed Asian wild crabapples and sweet commercial cultivars like Royal Gala. Kobelt spent two decades carefully breeding out the harsh, wild tannins to create a crisp, highly aromatic sweet-tart dessert apple. The resulting medium-to-large fruit features a striking crimson interior with a distinct white core halo. Unlike Gale Gala, the intense red pigmentation is genetically hardwired into the flesh matrix, allowing the fruit to color flawlessly even during cloudy, humid Indian monsoon stretches that cause traditional varieties to stall. Thriving between 6,000 to 7,500 feet, these scab-resistant trees require 600 to 800 chill hours, ripening from late August through September. Its high antioxidant anthocyanin levels completely prevent the flesh from browning when sliced, making it a highly profitable novelty for fresh-eating, gourmet baking, and natural ruby-red juice markets while storing cleanly for four months.
