Scarlet Spur II (specifically the Flinn cultivar) stands out as a next-generation, globally dominant selection of the Red Delicious family, discovered in the United States as a distinct limb sport on an original Scarlet Spur (Evasni) tree. Classified as a true spur-type, it exhibits a very compact, low-vigor growth habit that prioritizes heavy fruiting spurs over excessive wood growth. This architecture makes it exceptionally precocious, entering heavy production very early in the orchard's lifecycle and keeping trees naturally manageable in higher density configurations. The strain is highly celebrated for its evolved coloring capabilities, finishing its deep red blush even a few days earlier than its predecessor. It develops a brilliant, uniform, intense dark red skin across 100% of the surface remarkably early in the season. The fruit consistently sizes up into a large, highly elongated conical apple with five exceptionally prominent, sharp crown lobes, creating the textbook premium shape demanded by fresh fruit markets.
