History & Origin: Discovered in the United States by orchardist Wally Gale in Malaga, Washington, as a limb sport originating from a Royal Gala tree. Qualities & Sizing: Gained popularity for providing a nearly solid, bright red blush with faint background striping, coloring evenly even in shaded inner zones of the canopy. Behaves like a traditional Gala regarding size, demanding strict crop load management. Climate & Color Stability: Exhibits extreme color volatility under Indian conditions. In heavy monsoon years with warm, humid nights (above 16–18°C), color formation stalls completely, leaving fruits pale green or dull orange. It only finishes well in dry, clear years with sharp day-night temperature drops. Furthermore, it is highly prone to genetic reversion (unstable somatic mutation), causing unpredictable, "on-and-off" performance from year to year if nursery wood is mixed.
